Purpose of the Job
-
To lead, manage and develop the teaching and other academic aspects of the work of a team of teachers.

To implement and deliver an appropriately broad, balanced, relevant, differentiated, challenging and inspiring curriculum for students and to ensure that the subject areas within the faculty are vibrant, interesting, and enriching for all students.

To contribute significantly to raising standards of student attainment as a teacher and form tutor.

To support the process of application to University as a teacher and form tutor.

To contribute to the wider life of the school, including extra-curricular and enrichment activities
Principle Duties and Responsibilities
Planning& Curriculum
To develop faculty aims, objectives and strategic plans in line with the school improvement plan.
To lead the development of appropriate syllabuses, resources, schemes of work, marking policies and teaching strategies in the subject areas.
To lead the process of curriculum development and implementation of change, to ensure the continued relevance to the needs of students. This to include development of resources, schemes of work, policies, and strategies for raising achievement.
Staff Development: Recruitment & Deployment of Staff
To plan, direct and, where appropriate, lead subject specific training within the faculty.
To continue personal development in the relevant areas, including subject knowledge and teaching methods and to ensure that other members of the faculty do the same.
To implement self-evaluation, learning walks and review procedures within the faculty and to adhere to those.
To keep records and supply relevant, accurate and up-to-date information for SoW, lesson plans, learning evidence, registers etc.
Teaching &Pastoral System
To teach students according to their educational needs, their educational goals and the ethos of the school.
To assess, record and report on the attendance, progress, development, and attainment of students and to keep such records as are needed.
Monitor and support the overall progress and development of students as a teacher.
To be a form tutor to an assigned group of students.
To register students, accompany them to assemblies, encourage their full attendance at all lessons and their participation in other aspects of Seniors life.
To review student reports from the faculty and ensure consistent and accurate assessment.
Communications& Marketing and Liaison
To communicate effectively with the parents of students as appropriate, following agreed policies for communications.
To take part in marketing and liaison activities such as Open Evenings, Parents’ Evenings, and liaison events with partner schools.
To aid line managers in identifying resource needs and to contribute to the efficient/effective use of physical resources.
Applications are welcomed from candidates who meet the following requirements:
• A qualified teacher with a UK PGCE or other globally recognised teaching qualification (such as QTS).
• A minimum of 6 years qualified full-time teaching experience and 3 years management experience
• A reflective practitioner, with a positive, resilient personality and problem-solving skill set.
• Recent and consistent experience with Co-Curricular Activities
We welcome applicants with experience of working within boarding schools or applicants with a keen interest to participate, live and work within a boarding community. We appreciate that all applicants may not have such experience at present but we welcome applicants with the right approach to a unique part of the MIS experience. Preference is given to candidates already in Mainland China.

How to apply
Applicants should apply online through the school website or the TES careers portal. Please provide the names and full contact details of three professional referees, one of whom should be the Director/Head of School/Principal of your current school. Short-listed candidates must be able to provide a recent DBS/PVG check, police clearance certificate or similar record of non-criminality demonstrating that there is no reason why they cannot work with children. Early applications are encouraged, as MIS reserves the right to appoint before the deadline.
Due to national regulations, it is very unlikely that we will be able to secure a work permit or visa for foreign nationals whose 70th or subsequent birthdays take place between August 1 2022 and July 31, 2023.
